Bronze Fennel

A highly aromatic herb, Fennel is widely cultivated for its edible, licorice-flavored leaves and seeds. The variety 'Purpureum,' also known as Bronze Fennel, has dark, smoky foliage that's very attractive in borders or annual containers, where it adds a soft, airy, somewhat mysterious look. You may want to keep plants from blooming so they won't reseed. However, the yellow flower heads are pretty. Certain swallowtail butterflies like Fennel as a food source for their caterpillars, who won't eat much and are fun to watch as they grow.
