Monarda didyma 'Cambridge Scarlet'

Bee Balm, Bergamot

An older beebalm cultivar still popular for its bright red flowers, 'Cambridge Scarlet' makes a nice addition to the garden. In summer this hardy herbaceous perennial produces fragrant tubular flowers in frilly starburst heads that perch atop strong upright stems. Beneath each head is a conspicuous ruff of maroon bracts. The flowers draw hummingbirds and butterflies alike. The paired narrowly oval leaves have a pungent scent thats pleasant to humans but undesirable to browsing pests like deer.
